Tlalnepantla de Baz, State of Mexico, April 21, 2016 – Mexichem, S.A.B. de C.V. (BMV: MEXCHEM*) (the “Company” or “Mexichem”) states that over the course of today, teams have been able to gradually reach the center of the Clorados III plant belonging to Petroquímica Mexicana de Vinilo (PMV), which Mexichem operates in partnership with Pemex. As much as it has been possible to restore safe conditions within the damaged plant, it can be confirmed that, until now, 24 people have tragically died.
Furthermore, 19 people remain in hospital, 13 of them in a serious condition.
In the afternoon, President Enrique Peña Nieto visited the damaged installations in order to supervise the emergency actions taking place and visited patients in hospital, accompanied by the Secretaries of the Interior, Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong; of National Defense, General Salvador Cienfuegos; of Health, José Narro, and of Public Education, Aurelio Nuño, as well as the Attorney General, Arely Gómez and the Governor of Veracruz, Javier Duarte.
